Sens Struggle

March 15, 2010

The sens completed the Western Canada road trip in Vancouver Saturday night, where the Senators drop their 5th in 6 games. (This after being shutout 2-0 to the hands of the Calgary Flames)

It has been a tough ride for this team since the olympic break, but they intend get back on that high horse when they arrive back home on Tuesday night when they host the rival Toronto Maple Leafs. The leafs have been on a bit of a roll since the break, and they have already made these senators victims once since the return. However, this game the Senators intend to have more of a full line-up

So why are the Senators not doing as well as they did before the break? It can be labeled on a few different things. First, their injured players. There are only two players that are key, that are out, and that it Filip Kuba and Nick Foligno. Foligno, who is out with a leg injury, is a real energy player. He was one of the main drives in the Senators success when they were on that streak.

Next, the special teams. The Powerplay on the Canada road trip was beyond pathetic. The penalty kill? not much better.

The third and final reason on why the struggle is here: Key players are not acting key. Alex Kovalev is one of the most known to be the lazy guy, and that case has definatly came into play in the past six games. If the Sens are playing well, Kovalev plays well. Thats great, but he is being paid 5 million per to be that energy player, to be that guy who will step up when the going gets tough. (I can think of many players who are worth 5 million, but thats another story)

In the end, we have struggled out of the gate, as we are not 1/6 since the return. On Tuesday night at Scotia Bank Place we are set to host a much hotter Toronto Maple Leafs team who just had their 3 game winning streak snapped!

A Win Would Be Nice; A Win Is What We Got!!

March 10, 2010

Hard fought? lucky? Yeah, that about sums it up!

After the first period, it looked like it was going to be another long night for our Ottawa Senators, scoring just 3 times in 10 periods, and then we run into an unbeatable goalie. Jason D(sp?) was very sharp, but in the 3rd period, he finally cracked.

So the Sens sailed on to be what was an easy 4-1 win, as they got into the Oilers head, and got about 4 powerplays in that 3rd period alone.

We continue our Canadian West road trip into the city of Calgary on Thursday night!
