CANADA wins 8-0 in opener VS Norway

February 17, 2010

Oh how great it feels knowing that the Sens are in 3rd place in the East for the next 2 weeks! 🙂

TEAM CANADA iced their first hockey game in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Was it an exciting game? Well, if you’re Canadian!! Norway must get props though, they did play a better game then what I expected. The game finished 8-0, but I predicted that it would’ve at least made it into the double digits.

MY THOUGHTS ON GAME ONE: Hmm…well the lines suprised me a little bit for sure. Did anyone see Bergeron (who I think should have never made the team ahead of sophmore sensation Steve Stamkos, or ever our boy Fisher) landing on line 1 with Sidney Crosby and Jarome Iginla? I thought to myself, well, maybe it’s because they are only playing Norway and perhaps seeking some chemistry. Hopefully that was the case, and maybe it was as Nash was boosted up to our prime line, and Iginla notched 3 goals for the hat trick. Good Job Iggy!

Another suprise, Luongo gets the start. Does this mean that Luongo is the STARTER for the tournament? (Brodeur starts tomorrow night!)

What didn’t suprise me? Well… The Basics…:
Yesturday the USA won their game
Lastnight the Canadians won their game
Early this morning the Russians won their game. (very early, game started at 1am!)

Senators Win Last Game Before Break — Olympics 2010

February 15, 2010

The olympics have approached us rather quickly as it all begins tomorrow when Team Canada will host Team Norway in our opener, should be anything but interesting one would think.

Sens forward looking for tip

*From Ottawa Citizen*

The Senators fell behind, after taking 1-0 lead in the first, and just seem like they were going to begin their break a tad bit early. I think some credit for the win can go to Cory Clousten, who pumped some energy into the sens team before heading into the 3rd period 3-1. The final score was 4-3 for the Senators, and I am very impressed of their play in the last two months.

Will The Senators Make Another Deal By Deadline?

12 Wins In Last 13, We Will Take It!!

February 11, 2010

Sorry I have been really busy here over the last few weeks, so therefore this is my first blog in virtually forever!

This however does not mean that I have been missing the Sens games, I have seen every one and have been amazed by their play in every one (aside from that horrible leafs game, where I think that the team in the blue and white was a little underestimated!) Not to make any excuses though, that team playing with heart, determination, and soul …. and in a way, although it sacraficed our massive winning streak, it was good to see the Leafs win won for GM Burke who just recently lost his son in a car accident.

We won another well played game at home against the struggling Flames on Tuesday night, and we hope that this is the beginning of a good finish heading into the olympic break. Tonight however, we are playing in a toughy against the leagues best Washington Capitals.

All the Caps will be fired up to get a win under their belt, after last night losing to the Canadiens in a heart breaking defeat in Overtime, to the hands of Montreal forward Thomas Plekanic. This ended their 14 game winning streak, so you got to think that (like Ottawa did) they will come out hard to get back to the winning ways after a upsetting defeat.

So tonight it is a battle of the East as the two nations capitals are set to take battle at the Scotia Bank Place in Ottawa, where the senators have been great!

You can catch this game live @ 7:00 ET – NHL ON TSN!

Again, sorry that I havn’t blogged in a while, will look to improve!!
Blog will be up for post game either Tonight, or tomorrow at the very latest!

How ‘Swede’ It Is To Have You Back!

January 18, 2010

YET another hard working effort by the Ottawa Senators paid off this afternoon when the traveled to Boston to play against their divisional rivals the Bruins. As for on the Bruins behalf, the goal above just about sums up the night they had.

Both teams still have a handful of injuries to key players, but maybe the Sens are starting to get adjusted to their team, and in the end it may be tough to send them back. Like Peter Regin, hes a very under rated player. And how about Zac Smith. I forgot to not make a comment on his steallar night scoring that big shorthanded goal from Alfredsson.

Daniel Alfredsson is the first star of the game this afternoon, as he managed to score a hat trick, and ignight some more fire for this Senators team who has now won 3 in a row after losing a quick 5 games.

Brian Elliott was spectacular when need be in todays game, and some were unhappy that Brodeur wasnt played in todays game. The fact is that although he has shown up to be pretty good, the sens are paying big money in the goaltender department …. and as Don Cherry pointed out on hockey night in Canada, this is why we will see Mr. Brodeur back in the minors in a few weeks when LeClaire is ready to roll. (again)

Does this set up a market for Brian Elliott or Mike Brodeur to be traded at the Deadline in March?

THE OTTAWA SENATORS are back home tomorrow night against the leagues best Chicago Blackhawks.

Make that 3-0-0

January 17, 2010

It was another well fought game by the Ottawa Senators when they ventured into the ‘hockey city captal’ to play against the streaky Habs.

Despite taking six penalties against the leagues best in that department, the Senators were strong making an 100% PK, however, on the flip side the sens power play continued struggling as it has just scored 2 in the last 40.

Daniel Alfredsson was very much appreciated in the return as he was valuable on evenstrength, and especially the PK. He notched a goal and two assist by nights end.

The goaltending match was a great one, but Mike Brodeur perfomed better than CareyPrice, as he now extends his winning streak to 3 wins in the big leagues.

The senators win this crucial ‘4 point game’, and are back home at the Scotia Bank place when they play host to the leagues best, The Chicago Blackhawks.

Will Brodeur continue his excellents? Will he get the start? The game will be live on Sportsnet East (regional)

Another Win, And A Shutout To Boot For Brodeur!

January 14, 2010

Mike That is!

Who wouldve thought that Pascal Leclaire would get injured again, and Brian Elliott would just happen to be out with the flu. Hey, fine with me! Mike Brodeur is now 2-0-0 in the big leagues previously beating the Wild 4-1, making 22 saves that game. Tonight he was stellar again when it was a match-up of the men between the pipes, as Lundqvist held his own in the Rangers end.
The long 5 game losing streak is now over, but of course being in Sens nation this raises so many more questions. Should Brodeur see action @ Montreal Canadiens on Saturday night? Was it really Brodeur (goaltending) that was the reason that the sens won tonights game? These are just a few questions that one may ask.

The sens still in that dog fight in the Eastern Conference that will probably last straight to the end, so every decision made will be crucial. The game Saturday night is a HUGE game @ the Bell Centre, as it will be a little bit of seperation between the two clubs.

So, if you are Cory Clouston … Who do you start in Montreal? Pascal Leclaire (if healthy), Brian Elliott, or Mike Brodeur

Notes: Kuba was suppose to return to the lineup tonight, and we could be getting the captain back by Tuesday hosting the leagues best, the Chicago Blackhawks. Alfy, we will need you!
